US States by Uninsured Rate (2024)
The uninsured rate is the share of residents who had no health insurance of any kind at the time of the survey: no employer or individual plan, no Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE or VA coverage. State choices about Medicaid expansion, the age of the population and the mix of industries all affect it.

Methodology
Calculated from Census Bureau table B27001 (Health Insurance Coverage Status by Sex by Age), 1-year estimates: the sum of all "No health insurance coverage" cells across sex and age groups, divided by the civilian noninstitutionalized population. Coverage is measured at the time of the interview. Indian Health Service alone is not counted as coverage.
Puerto Rico and other US territories are not included. Rankings use competition ranking: tied values share a rank.
