Methodology

Calculated from Census Bureau table B08301 (Means of Transportation to Work), 1-year estimates: workers 16+ who worked from home divided by all workers 16+. The question asks how a person usually got to work last week, so hybrid workers are counted by whichever mode they used most that week.

Puerto Rico and other US territories are not included. Rankings use competition ranking: tied values share a rank.

Frequently asked questions

Which state has the most remote workers?

District of Columbia, where 22.9% of workers work from home.

Are hybrid workers counted?

Only if they mostly worked from home in the reference week. The survey records the usual mode of travel for that week.
